Path of Blood is your primary Path. Your Thaumaturgy rating is the same as your current Path of Blood rating.
You may not have any other path equal or higher than Path of Blood until you reach level five. This means that if you only have Path of Blood 2, you may not raise any of your other paths to 2 until you learn more Path of Blood. Once you reach Path of Blood 5, you may buy the rest of your paths up to 5.
The same applies to rituals:
You may not
learn a ritual that is ranked above your Thaumaturgy rating.

Rituals are time consuming and they are not for use in any spontaneous instance, so please do not expect your character to be able to rely on them. It is true that it is hard to kill a prepared Tremere because of them, but the key world there is prepared. Unless you have specifically notified DarkeST which rituals you are spending time doing for any given scene, they have not been activated. Work with me to work out long term ritual working. Technically, your character could just hang out all day and night in the Chantry and work on rituals, but the idea behind an RPG is to role play. I reserved the right to tell you if you're spending too much time on rituals.
