Character Making Process: READ THIS FIRST Empty
PostSubject: Character Making Process: READ THIS FIRST   Character Making Process: READ THIS FIRST EmptyFri Jun 12, 2009 9:04 am

So you wan to join Casa di Sangue: Venice? Sweet! Here's what you need to do...

1) Register a new account with your intended character name. If you're not sure what your name should be, we can always change it for you later. One of our players found this resource - Thanks!!

2) Concept: PM DarkeST with your concept. Your concept can be as simple as "Ornery librarian type who has issues with young people." or it can be as complex as you'd like. Remember, this is a CONCEPT. It doesn't have to be the end-all be-all of your character.

Once your concept is approved....

3) Backstory: This is the most important section of your character and will have to be the longest section you submit. We're looking for paragraphs here. There's another thread with more information on helping you round out the information on your character. The Backstory is most important because it helps to describe who your character is and what motivates them. Please read up on your clan as well. Also, the older/more fame your characters is/has, the longer we expect this to be. On the flip side, if you're a neonite, it doesn't mean you can get away with writing 5 lines and that's it. If you're having trouble, please please please PM us. We're here to help!

Once all of this is approved, then we have the

4) Character sheet! This is the skeleton of your character. You will be given a set amount of points to use to fill this out. Additional points may be awarded for really great backgrounds and concepts. We reserve the right to ask questions on why things are the way they are. We're not picking on you, we're just making sure we're all on the same page.

So what are you waiting for? Create!

How to Build Your Character Sheet

These steps are also outlined on pg 128 of the Dark Ages Vampire Corebook. More details are included there, but this is for quick reference while creating your character. Staff highly advises you obtain a copy of the Dark Ages Vampire Corebook, either in hard copy or PDF. Portions of this section below written in italics were added by staff and reflect house rules for the game.

1) Complete steps 1-3 of the Character Approval Steps: Choose a concept, Clan, Road, andNature and demeanor.

2)Select Attributes. Start with one dot in every attribute. The standard array of attirbutes is 7/5/3, however 5/5/5 is also an acceptable array. Attribute groups are physical, social, mental.

If following the 7/5/3 option, you should distribute 7 dots to your primary attribute group, 5 to your secondary, and third to your tertiary. At this point in time, you have assign a full score of 5 to one attribute within your primary group if you wish, but you may not have any scores of 1 in that same attribute grouping. The exception to this is nosferatu with social attributes as their primary group. Please remember, however, that 5s are very rare and reflect the strong point of your character.

If following the 5/5/5 option, you may distribute each within each attribute group. Because there is no 7 pool, you may not start with a 5 in any attribute. However, the 5/5/5 array may work better for characters who pull from a variety of attribute pools for discipline use. We've decided to keep this 5/5/5 array to ease the flip for some characters from CoAL so they don't need to rework their character.

3) Select Abilities. Assign 13 dots to your primary ability category, 9 dots to your secondary category, and 5 to your tertiary. Categories are Talents, Skills, and Knowledges. You may not put any more than 3 dots into any given ability at this time. Note that all Cainites receive a free first dot in cainite lore and clan lore.

4) Select Advantages. Divide 4 dots among clan disciplines. Assign 5 dots to Backgrounds. Virtues have a base of one dot in each category, so distribute 7 dots to your virtues.

Note that generation is assigned in this game, not purchased. Generations available are from 7-12, and no generation is guaranteed by staff despite age, heritage, or backstory accomplishments.

5) Road Rating is equal to your Conviction/Conscience + Self-Control/Instinct. Willpower is equal to your courage score.

6) Select Flaws, Spend Freebies. Each character receives 15 freebies. Flaws give you extra freebies equal to their listed value. You may receive up to 7 freebies from flaws. Merits cost freebies equal to their point value, and players may purchase up to 10 points in merits.

Freebie Costs:
Attributes: 5 freebies per dot. (cannot be used to buy level 5 of an attribute.)
Abilities: 2 freebies per dot
Ability Specialties: 1 freebie per dot, max three per ability
Disciplines: 7 freebies per dot (cannot be used to buy level 5 of a discipline. Out of clan disciplines may not be purchased without the proper mentor dots.)
Backgrounds: 1 freebie per dot
Virtues: 2 freebies per dot
Road Rating: 1 freebie per dot
Willpower: 1 freebie per dot (Willpower may not be purchased above 7 with character creation freebies. Please see the Willpower section for more rules regarding it. Staff strongly advises players to put some freebies into their WP score.)

7) Spend Experience (xp). Every player starts out with an extra free 10xp. Players may also receive some bonus XP for their backstory. XP based costs are different from freebie based costs, so please consult our Experience section to spend your bonus XP. Note that for starting XP, out of clan disciplines may not be purchased save for the first level of Celerity, Fortitude, or Potence.Attributeshttps://casadisangue.rpg-board.net/character-creation-f2/attributes-physical-social-mental-t8.htm

IF you are cleared to play an elder, then your spread will be a bit different. We are not using the white wolf elder spread because I believe it is unbalanced. Therefore, the elder spread is as follows:

Attributes: 9/7/5

Abilities: 17/13/9

Advantages: 6-Disciplines; 7-Backgrounds

Virtues - 10

IF you have any questions, please PM DarkeST, or hit me up on aim - DarkeCrimson
